The Unveiling Of The Fenton Artist's Guild Mural "Song of the Shiawassee"

COMMUNITY CENTER MURAL - "Song of the Shiawassee"
Twenty-one members of the Fenton Artist Guild were involved in the Community Center mural project. The painting was done during a three-day workshop, on July 11, 12, and 13, 2005. The completed mural measures 72 inches wide by 90 inches high and will hang in the stairwell. It was done with acrylic paints, on fifteen 24x18 inch canvases that will be hung 5 across and 3 down. Following are the nineteen members that did the painting:
Mary Lou Ackerman, Terry Brancheau, Irma Brady Carlson, Karen McHale Cherveny Sharon Dorland, Carol Glen, Fred Hall, Jean Hermann, Joan Horcha, Delores Irani, Mary McHale, Sue McKee, Jaki Miller, Judy Paris, Jan Rolison, Bernice Scott, Diane Tasselmyer, Vera Thornton, Elizabeth Westerveld
Lyle Chapman and Jerry Haddad was the support team, helping with the "behind- the-scenes" work. It was a very successful endeavor and we are all very proud of the "Song of the Shiawassee". There will be an unveiling ceremony and public reception sometime in the near future, probably in September, with the date unknown at this time.

WITH THANKS AND APPRECIATION
I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to everyone that worked on the mural. After we committed to the project, I was worried as to whether we could "pull it off". Well, the end result is beyond my wildest dreams! I would especially like to thank Erma Brady Carlson. I called her in Alabama and explained what we had been asked to do, and she assured me that we could. When she returned to Michigan, she helped in the numerous meetings, she drew the original draft, painted the concept painting, and led the workshop. I appreciate her help very much. There were numerous other people that helped pull this project together, and spent many hours planning, before we ever started to paint. Then came the three-day painting workshop. I cannot express how amazing it was to me to see 19 people work on one project- with 19 painting styles. The cooperation, energy, and community spirit was outstanding, and our mural reflects that. I commend all of you!!
With sincere thanks- Joan
