Fenton Artist Guild
June 2009 News Letter

From the Presidents Studio
This past month has brought sad news to our Guild, with the passing of good friend and member Karen Wisniewski. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

At our last meeting, it was voted that we not participate in “Art at the Center”, due to lack of interest and no one willing to Chair. While talking to Tammy at the Community Center, they are also having trouble getting others to sign up for the event. Hopefully, next year will be better for this event.

On a better note, the Plein Air program starts this month with many new locations, that I am sure has something for everyone. We are adding some Saturdays to the event this year for those who can not make the Tuesday locations. Also, because it made for a very long day, I did not plan a location on the day of our meetings. So, mark your calendars to make sure you don’t miss the fun, friendship and sunshine with fellow members.

Next Meeting Time
We are having an off site meeting! Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Fenton Village Players new building, 14197 Torrey Rd., Fenton Twp.

June 16, 2009 Program

Our presenter will be Mary Lou Ackerman, who has done presentations for us before. She will be talking about the connection between art and poetry, exploring how poetry is inspired by art and art inspired by poetry. She says it is a wonderful way of discovering personal self expression and visual enhancement of your art journey. This should be very insightful and fun.

July 21, 2009 Program

The challenge is to create something, using your medium of choice, about this phrase, “Seeing things through the eye’s of a Child”. I was told a few years ago you did this using the word Symbols. Anyone wanting to participate just creates a painting, collage, metal art, bead work, etc. using your medium. Then at the July 21, 2009 meeting, everyone will bring their finished piece. And instead of a program, each person will talk about their art work, explaining how the phrase relates, what they were thinking about, and so forth. This should be fun to see how everyone interprets this phrase!

If you’d like to suggest a possible guest speaker or topic, call Sharon Dorland at 810-629-0775, or e-mail her at spdorland@chartermi.net or Mary Lou Ackerman at 810-629-8128, or e-mail her at mackerman8128@charter.net

The Fenton Artist Guild was formed in 1975. Originally it was an organization to bring artists together. Over the years the goals and activities have grown so that now Guild membership is open to anyone interested in the arts and willing to participate in Guild activities.
Meetings are open to the public and are generally held the third Tuesday of the month. Meetings begin at 7:00pm and are held in the Fenton Community and Cultural Center, 150 S. Leroy, Fenton, MI. Monthly meetings feature an art-related program. Members are encouraged to bring current work to share with the group. Membership dues are due beginning in October each year. If paid before Dec. 31, their names will appear in the annual Guild directory. All members receive a monthly e-mail newsletter.
